Round 3: Ballylanders v St Pats

Bruff was the venue once again for round three of the Limerick senior football championship tie between ourselves and St Patrick's in a repeat of the 2014 county final. Just like that day the sun shone brightly on Sunday evening, although quite a strong breeze was blowing from right to left which Bally played with in the opening half. St Patrick's were the only team in the group with a 100% record coming into the game and they showed why in the early exchanges when they had plenty of possession but were unable to convert this into scores with some wayward shooting and some excellent defending led by Shane Fox. Kieran O'Callaghan opened the scoring in the 7th minute with the first of three frees in a row before a Danny Frewen point from play had us four up inside the opening quarter. Soon after St Pat's opened their account before a brilliant move involving Maurice Kelly,Stephan & Eoin Walsh restored our four point advantage again. Mark O'Connell was immense in centre field and not even a bad knock on the head slowed him down as both himself and Tom Lee were well on top in that key battle, along with the half back line of Brian O'Connell, Donal Kelly and Ray Murray. St Pat's scored their second point of the game in the twenty second minute but there was still time for Bally to add two more points through a Kieran O'Callaghan free and a well taken point from play by Stephen Fox to leave the half time score Ballylanders 0-7 St Patrick's 0-2. Within five minutes of the restart St Pat's closed the gap to four but two more well taking frees from Kieran stretched the lead once more. Unfortunately this was to be Kieran's last involvement as he was unable to shake off a heavy knock he took to his knee earlier in the half and he was replaced by Diarmuid McCarthy. Eoin Walsh and Mark O'Connell added two further points in between two for Pats to leave the score heading into the final ten minutes at 0-11 to 0-5. St Patrick's were then to hit a purple patch kicking five unanswered points, this wasn't helped by the harsh sending off of James Kirby in the 54th minute but there was another push left in Bally and two minutes into injury time a great solo run by Tom Lee saw him fist over and a minute later Eoin Walsh kicked his third of the game to seal a well deserved victory on a score line of Ballylanders 0-13 St Patrick's 0-10. This leaves group one with everything still up for grabs with Ballylanders,St Patrick's & Drom Broardford all on four points and the three remaining teams on two points each. Round 2 : Ballylanders v Monaleen

SENIORS BACK ON TRACK
Our senior footballers travelled to Bruff again for round two of the senior football championship last Friday evening (8th May 2015) to face Monaleen knowing that a win was of the upmost importance to get back on track in a group that might not be settled until the final round of games.The rain that fell for most of the day had thankfully cleared by the time the ball was thrown in and the intense battle begun. It was apparent from the off that both teams were up for the game and the response that manager Ephie Fitzgearld was looking for after the first round defeat to Pallasgreen was there from the lads. However it was the city side who opened the scoring kicking the first three points inside five minutes before Jimmy Barry landed a free to settle us down. Monaleen added another point before a James Kirby score from play and two further frees from Jimmy Barry had the sides level halfway through the opening half. Monaleen were then to hit us with a goal when they won one of our kick outs and they added another point before Jimmy Barry got his fourth pointed free to leave the halftime score at 0-5 to 1-5 in favour of the city outfit.
On the resumption of the second half both sides traded scores with our points coming from the hard working Eoin Walsh, Jimmy Barry (free) and Thomas Lee to leave the scoreboard at 0-8 to 1-8 heading into the last ten minutes. The introduction of Diarmuid McCarthy to midfield helped to strengthen us and with our backs now well on top we were hitting our forward line with quicker ball, one of these attacks resulted in Mark O'Connell been fouled for a penalty which Stephan Fox smashed to the back of the net to tie up the game. From this point on the team showed why they were crowned county champions last year as they kept Monaleen scoreless while creating chances at the other end. Jimmy Barry kicked his sixth pointed free in the 53rd minute to put us ahead and then Kieran O'Callaghan was introduced and with his first touch kicked a free straight over from a full forty yards. He followed this up with a point from play which proved to be the last score of the game - Final score Ballylanders 1-11 Monaleen 1-08. This performance was up there with what was produced last year but with St Patrick's the next opposition in a few weeks it will take a similar effort if we are to get a second victory. Big thanks to Connie McSweeny who stood in for Ephie for the night.

DISAPPOINTMENT IN SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
Our seniors started their defence of the Fr Casey cup in the worst possible way in Bruff last Sunday evening losing to a spirited Pallasgreen side on a score line of 0-12 to 3-9. We started the game brightly and went two points up through a Jimmy Barry free and a Danny Frewen point from play but Pallas responded with the next two scores to level the game. Danny kicked his second point from a free and Jimmy Barry added two further frees to leave the score 0-5 to 0-3 with quarter of the opening half gone but this was to be the last time we would be in front as a long ball was floated into our goal area and was fisted over the on rushing keeper Ricky Slattery to put Pallas a point ahead. Our only other score of the half once again came from a dead ball effort from Jimmy Barry. The score at half time read Ballylanders 0-6 Pallasgreen 1-6.
If we were to get back into this game we needed the first score of the second half but unfortunately it was Pallas who got it in the form of another goal to put them six ahead. They quickly added another point to further open up their lead. This was a performance that was well below anything that we had produced last year and with only three of our twelve points coming from play it was never going to be good enough to win a championship game. The gap was reduced to three points with scores coming from Jimmy Barry (2 frees,1 45), Danny Frewen and Jason Leigh but then in a matter of seconds the game took a six point swing when Mark O'Connell fielded a high ball but his shot was saved, Pallas broke up the field and found the back of the net for the third time to secure their victory.With round two only a week away now there will have to be a massive increase in performance levels if we are to get back to wining ways. Munster Championship Q/F 2014 - Ballylanders v The Nire
BLUE DAY IN KILMALLOCK (November 2, 2014)
Our seniors season came to an end last Sunday with defeat in the Munster championship to the Waterford outfit, The Nire on a score line of 1-11 to 0-7. Bally started brightly and had plenty of the ball in the opening five minutes but were unable to score in this time. From here on, The Nire took total control of the game and hit three unanswered points before Danny Frewen got our first point in the twelfth minute. Unfortunately it was the twenty sixth minute when Jimmy Barry got our second point but The Nire had kicked 1-3 in that period to leave seven points between the sides. Danny kicked a free before the break to leave the half time score 0-3 to 1-7.
A change of jerseys and two switches in personnel, (Kieran O'Callaghan for James Kirby and Tom Fox for Ger Casey) were made to try and get us back into the game and Mark O'Connell came close to the goal we needed but his shot rose over the crossbar for the opening score of the half. However, The Nire took control once again and by the tenth minute of the half they kicked their last score of the game to lead 0-4 to 1-11 but unfortunately we were only able to add three more points to our tally, all from the boot of Jimmy Barry.
It was a disappointing atmosphere after the game as we know this team has much higher standards and our hopes were high of getting a run in this years Munster Championship but when we look back on 2014, it will go down as a very successful year for the club.
With Ephie Fitzgearld now taking up a role with the Clare footballers we would like to thank him hugely for the work he has done for the club and wish him well in his new endeavours. Disappointing Minor & U21 Results
It was a disappointing weekend (25/26 October 2014) for our U21 and Minors teams as both were beating in their respective competitions. The U21 Premier championship started last Friday night (24th October) under the lights of Kilbreedy as we faced Newcastlewest. Once again this year we are joined with Galtee Gaels and play under the name of Shamrocks. NCW got the perfect start with a goal inside twenty seconds and led 1-2 to no score after five minutes. We got more into the game after this and a well taking goal by Ciaran Kelly before half time had the score 1-5 to 1-8 at the break. Shamrocks were on top now and were level at 1-9 a piece when Danny Frewen took a heavy knock and had to be replaced. This seemed to unsettle us as we failed to score again in the game, final score was Shamrock's 1-9. NCW 2-13.
On Sunday it was the turn of our minors to contest the Minor 'A' county semi final in Hospital but they found themselves up against a bigger outfit in Kildimo/Pallaskenery and were on the wrong side of a 4-16 to 3-7 defeat. Full credit to Jason Leigh and Mike Meade for looking after this team all year and with the South League and South Championship titles in the bag, it has been a very successful season.
BALLY ARE COUNTY CHAMPIONS 2014
The 12th of October 2014 will go down in the history books for Ballylanders Gaa as our senior footballers secured title number four in Newcastlewest with a 2-08 to 1-07 victory over St. Patrick's. Conditions were perfect and the large crowd that made the journey enjoyed the autumn sunshine. Once the formalities were complete it was Bally who opened the scoring with a well taking point from captain Jimmy Barry Murphy. It was clear from the outset that St Pats were trying to get an early goal and they came close a number of times, hitting the post twice. Both teams traded scores with James Kirby and another from Barry had the scores level at three a piece by the quarter hour mark.Then came Bally's best period as Eoin Walsh first kicked a point and then laid on a great pass to James Kirby who crashed the ball past the Pats keeper for the opening goal. Brian O'Connell added another point to open up a five point lead with five minutes of the opening half remaining. Both teams added one more point each before the break with Danny Frewen getting Bally's to leave it 1-06 to 0-04.
St Patricks began the second half in determined fashion and Bally were finding it hard to keep the ball but with Stephen Fox playing the sweeper role to a tee they couldn't break through our defence. The hard working James Kirby kicked his second point of the game to put six between them but Pat's responded kicking the next two points. Then came the crucial score of the game when a Bally counter attack led to Danny Frewen firing into the corner of the net to leave the score 2-07 to 0-06 with fifteen minutes to go. Pats were now desperate to get a goal to get them back into the game but there was just no way through the Bally defence and when their goal came it was only a consolation. Man of the match Jimmy Barry kicked Ballys last point and there was huge joy as the final whistle went as the seven year wait to have the Fr Casey cup back in Ballylanders was over. In his speech Jimmy Barry dedicated the victory to his late father Seamus and fellow deceased members Ann Hickey and Noel Martin. He gave special praise to manager Ephie Fitzgearld who made all this possible. The home coming that night was something everyone who was there will remember as both sides of the streets were packed with well wishers. Attention now turns to our sister club Glenroe for the next few weeks as they go in search of a historic double before we return to concentrate on the Munster championship where we are at home to the Waterford champions in November. SENIORS REACH COUNTY FINAL 2014
For the first time since 2008 Ballylanders will contest the Limerick senior football county final after dethroning the champions for the previous two years in Rathkeale last Friday night. This was a performance of immense work rate from the first minute to the last and some quality scoring from our forwards was the recipe to this success.The winning of Tom Lee's appeal against his red card on Thursday night was a massive boost to the whole team and he played a major role in this win. Kieran O'Callaghan opened the scoring from a free kick but the next five minutes showed why Drom-Broardford were champions as they kicked three unanswered points to lead 0-1 to 0-3. Another free from Kieran closed the gap and then in the tenth minute a great ball from Johnny Murphy was fielded by Danny Frewen and he had the presence of mind to round the keeper and slot home the opening goal to put Bally ahead, a lead they would hold until the end. Danny and Eoin Walsh were causing the Drom defence major problems with their pace and found the only way to stop them was to concede frees. With Kieran on song once he added two more points to open up a four point gap. Drom closed it to three but Bally responded and with his confidence now high, Danny kicked a super point from out on the wing. This was added to by efforts from Eoin and Kieran to lead 1-7 to 0-4 with ten minutes of the opening half still to play. Drom finished the half strong but with our defenders putting on the pressure, it meant they had to shoot from distance and this saw them kick a number of wides. However they did manage to raise the white flag on three occasions to leave it at the break, Ballylanders 1-7 Drom Broardford 0-7. The second half was only seconds old when Eoin flicked a ball onto Danny who slotted under the onrushing keeper to give us the perfect start. Kieran added another free to open the gap to seven points. Drom threw the kitchen sink at us now but they were up against a team who were determined to put their bodies on the line for the jersey. They were unable to break our defensive line and had to shoot under pressure and from distance. Eoin Walsh kicked his second of the night to relieve some of the pressure which left the scores at 2-9 to 0-10 with fifteen to go. Drom were then reduced to 14 men when an off the ball incident saw their keeper shown a red card. Heading into the last few minutes, Drom had the gap down to three points but with a brick wall in front of them they were never able to get near Ricky Slattery's goal and it was Bally who got the last score as once again Danny and Eoin combined well for Eoin to punch over his third and give us a much deserved victory on a score line of 2-10 to 0-12. Great credit goes to the management team of Ephie Fitzgearld, Joey Daly & Connie McSweeny who had the team in peak condition for this game and now the work begins to finish off the job in Newcastlewest on the 12th of October. JUNIORS EXIT
Sunday, September 28th saw our juniors exit from the South championship vs Croom in the semi final replay which was played in Hospital. This was not a game for the purist and a lot of stoppages didn't help matters. First half points from Ger Ahern,Peter Lane,Tom Fox and a great goal from DJ Sheey had the score at the break, Ballylanders 1-3 Croom 1-4. However, two early Croom goals in the second half killed this game as a contest and not even a late Shane Hennessy goal could save us. Final score was Ballylanders 2-6 Croom 3-8. Full credit goes to Tom Sheehan,John Frewen & Eamon Dineen for looking after the team all year as it is very important to have a junior team to blood players into the senior squad year after year.
SEMI FINAL FRIDAY NIGHT
Our senior footballers will play the county semi final vs Drom Broardford on this Friday night, September 26th in Mick Neville Park Rathkeale with a throw in time of 8:15pm after seeing off the challenge of Newcastlewest in the quarter final last Saturday in Kilmalock on a score line of 2-9 to 0-11. With the boost of both Shane & Steve Fox been declared fit Bally were able to pick from a full squad but it was NCW who settled a little quicker and kicked the opening two points inside 3mins. Danny Frewen settled his and Bally's nerves with a well taking point on four minutes and that was followed by a goal from Kieran O'Callaghan who was on the end of a high ball to get a fist on it to the back of the net to leave it 1-1 to 0-2 with 5mins gone. A great run by Danny Frewen left the NCW defenders for dead and from a tight angle he fisted his second over the bar, that score coming in between two points from NCW to leave the minimum between them with quarter of the game gone. Kieran kicked two frees before the crucial score of the game came in the 22nd minute when a shot from Keairn wasn't cleared from the area and a defender appeared to be the last to touch it over the line for a second Bally goal. NCW kicked the last score of the half to leave it at the break Ballylanders 2-4 NCW 0-6.
Scores in the second half were hard to come by as this game was been well battled out all over the pitch with the midfield pairing of Tom Lee and Johnny Murphy putting in some hard hits to keep NCW out. Danny also kicked the first point of the second half and that was followed by a well taken Eoin Walsh score to open the gap to six. NCW responded by kicking the next two to leave it 2-6 to 0-8 half way through the second period.Jimmy Barry opened his account and Kieran kicked another free in between a NCW effort to leave four points in it heading into the last 5 minutes. A goal now was on the minds of the NCW players and only for some excellent defending and a slice of Lady Luck, Bally were able to keep them out far enough where they had to kick points and the fourth point of the day from Danny Frewen was the insurance one. The game finished on a sour note as Tom Lee was shown a straight red along with James Kelly from NCW following a scuffle which took some of the shine off a great team effort. It has been 2010 since our last semi final appearance so make sure to make a massive effort to be in Rathkeale Friday to give the boys your support.
SENIORS WIN AGAIN - Ballylanders 1-12 Pallasgreen 0-6
The re-arranged round four group game vs Pallasgreen was played last Friday evening, 29th August in Bruff. Having seen off the likes of Drom Broardford, St Mary's and Monaleen in previous rounds we were hot favourites to come through this game but with Pallas being in danger of the drop it was never going to be easy. With injures to full back Shane Fox and centre back Donal Kelly the team management had to switch things around and maybe this was a reason for our slow start as Pallas were the first to settle & raced into a two point lead inside the first minute. Points from Danny Frewen & Kieran O'Callaghan had the scores level after six minutes but Pallas restored their two point advantage again to lead 0-4 to 0-2 with ten minutes gone. Danny Frewen got his second of the game before the first of the referees strange decisions to give Brian O'Connell a black card when it appeared to most that it was Brian who had been fouled. James Kirby replaced Brian and was quick to make his mark kicking a point to level up the scores again. In the 21st minute we were to receive a penalty when Kieran was brought down in the box and when he dusted himself down he rifled a shot into the top corner to leave the half time score of Ballylanders 1-4 Pallasgreen 0-4.
Bally were much improved in the second half and within a minute James Kirby kicked his second of the game and that was followed by another for Danny Frewen to open the gap to five points. Jimmy Barry kicked a great free from the right hand side before Pallas got one back again. Two points from man of the match Eoin Walsh extended our lead to 1-9 to 0-5. Then came another twist as a row broke out on the stand side of the field which resulted in a red card for both Kieran O'Callaghan and a Pallas defender. Bally added three more frees, Jimmy Barry (2) and Stevie Fox to leave the full time score Ballylanders 1-12 Pallasgreen 0-6.
With one game remaining we are top of the group and if we can avoid defeat against St Patricks this Friday night we will finish top and go straight through to the semi final but having been knocked out by the same opposition last year we will have to be at our very best from the off. GOLDEN OLDIES
On Thursday night, August 14th it was the turn of the over 35's to take to the field for the Pattern derby of Townies vs Culchies. The large crowd that turned out were giving great entertainment. Mike 'Fred' McCarthy proved to be the difference with his haul of two goals, goals that will no dought be relived on every social occasion! Connie McSweeny accepted the cup on behalf of the Culchies. The ladies club then took to the field with a game of crazy football,this also proved to be a big crowd pleaser.
SENIORS TOP OF THE TREE
Our senior footballers kept their 100% wining start to this years Limerick senior football championship last Wednesday evening (August 13th) in Kilmallock against defending championships Dromcollogher Broardford. Having already seeing off the challenges of Monaleen and St.Mary/Sean Finns this was going to be a massive test of our character, one which we passed with flying colours.
Playing against a stiff wind Kieran O'Callaghan got the first point of the game in the third minute with a free but Drom were to hit a purple patch and by the twenty third minute were 0-5 0-1 ahead. Bally finished the half strong and scores from Mark O'Connell, Kieran O'Callaghan (free) and Stephen Fox left the half time score Ballylanders 0-4 Drom 0-6.
The second 30 minutes was to be the best performance we have seen from the boys this year and within two minutes of the restart the game was tied with scores from Kieran O'Callaghan and Jimmy Barry. Drom went 0-7 to 0-6 ahead but a great point from centre back Donal Kelly levelled the game again with twelve minutes of the second half played. Drom kicked two further points to lead 0-9 to 0-7 but the was to be their last score of the game as they were denied by a brilliant save from goal keeper Ricky Slattery. Excellent work rate from corner forward to corner back meant Drom were always shooting under pressure which resulted in them kicking 17 wides on the night. Another Kieran free and point from Danny Frewen had the game level with six minutes remaining. Bally were now finding gaps in the Drom defence and two further frees from Kieran O'Callaghan gave us victory on a score line of Ballylanders 0-11 Dromcollogher Broardford 0-9.
This result leaves us on top of the group now but with two games to go it is all still to play as any one of three teams can still finish top.

Bad day for Junior Footballers
Those who travelled to Kilfinane last Saturday (9th August) were left puzzled as to how after making a bright start in the South Junior Football Championship vs Croom we were to leave on the receiving end of a heavy defeat.
Croom were to get the opening score of the game but then came a period of dominance from us were points from Paul Lonergan,Tom Fox, two from Tom O'Dywer & DJ Sheey had us five points to one up with ten minutes on the clock. However this was to be as good as it got and we were not to score again until a Tom Fox free in the 12th minute of the second half with the score reading 1-6 to 0-6.
Croom were to add another 1-2 and a Tom Fox free was our only other score leaving the result Croom 2-8 Ballylanders 0-7. This was a disappointing display but this team has showing great heart in previous years and will be looking forward to putting things right in there next outing.
SENIORS WIN BACK SOUTH TITLE
Over the last two weeks our Seniors claimed back the South Senior title from Galbally with a 1-16 to 1-10 win in Kilbehenny.
Our next fixture in senior football is in the county championship vs the champions Drom Broardford in Kilmallock on Wednesday the 13/08 at 7pm, all support appreciated.
Our juniors played last years league final vs Fr Caseys last week but were on the wrong end of a 1-16 to 0-10 score line.Their next fixture is the south championship vs Croom this Saturday 09/08 in Kilfinane at 2:30pm.

Round Ballylanders 1 - 11 Galtee Gaels 2-8 Venue: Kilfinane Date 5th July
LATE DRAMA IN DERBY
No one who travelled to Kilfinane last Saturday night for the Junior A round one championship match vs Galtee Gaels was leaving the ground early as there was drama right up to the final whistle.
Gaels were the quickest to settle & playing with the wind raced into a four point lead before DJ Sheey got us on the scoreboard with two points with 20 mins on the clock to leave the score 0-2 to 0-5. With four minutes to go before the break Gaels were to receive a penalty which they scored past goal keeper James O Brien. Tom Fox kicked the last score of the half leaving the score 0-3 to 1-6.
Tom Sheehan brought Paul Lonergan on for Dylan Noonan for the second half and this was to help us win more ball around the middle of the field. Ger Ahern got the first score of the half to narrow the gap. Tom Fox kicked two further points to leave the score 0-6 to 1-7 .Bally were now on top but were to lose DJ Sheey to a second yellow card but this didn't stop the boys from digging deep & they were to get their reward when Peter Lane finished off a Jason Leigh free to the net to leave just one point between them, 1-6 to 1-7. Tom O Dywer (2) ,Jason Leigh & Peter Lane kicked points to have us ahead going into injury time 1-10 to 1-8 when we were awarded a penalty but unfortunately Tom O Dywer was to send his kick to the right of the post and wide. However, that wasn't the end of the drama as Gaels floated in a free which resulted in them receiving a second penalty which they scored to leave them one point ahead. But there was still one attack left in Bally where they were awarded a free in and Tom Fox kicked it to leave the final score 1-11 to 2-8.

SENIORS GET SECOND WIN
Due to the pitch in Bruff being closed, our senior game vs St Mary's Sean Finns was switched to Kilbreedy on Sunday evening June 8th . There was a stiff breeze blowing from right to left but thankfully the rain was to stay away. Bally played into the wind in the first half so the work rate had to be there from the word go & the lads certainly didn't lack in this. St Mary's were first on the scoreboard & both sides exchanged points in the opening 20 minutes with Kieran O Callaghan kicking 3 frees, a 45 & a point from play into the wind, which had us winning 0-5 to 0-3 with 10 mins until the break. St Mary's then hit us with 1-2 without reply but just before the half time whistle the ball broke to Brian O Connell on the edge of the box & he was able to fire it to the back of the net to leave the scores level at the break at 1-5 a piece.
Two quick scores on the resumption of the second half by Stevie Fox & Kieran O'Callaghan had us two ahead again but St Mary's hit back once more to leave it 1-7 each with 13 minutes of the second half played. But from here on Bally were to dominate & two further frees from Kieran & a Jimmy Barry point had us leading 1-10 to 1-7 when a free from Kieran dropped short but Tom Lee was on hand to fist into the net to give us some breathing space. Full time score was Ballylanders 2-11 St Mary's Sean Finns 1-9. This leaves us with two wins from our two games & going into the summer break in a great position. Well done to all involved.

Seniors Winning Start
All roads led to Bruff last Sunday evening for our opening round game to this years senior football championship vs Monaleen. This was the first county game for the new management team of Ephie Fitzgearld,Joey Daly & Connie Mcsweeny. Bally were the first to score but in a half where the teams were level 5 times this was always going to be a tough battle. Points from Steve Fox, Danny Frewen, Kieran O'Callaghan, Tom Lee & Eoin Walsh saw Bally go in at half time leading by 0-10 to 0-7. Monaleen scored the first point of the second half to leave two between them but that was as close as they got as our full back line of Maurice Kelly, Shane Fox & Ger Casey got the better of their forwards & some well taking scores at the other end by Eoin Walsh, Danny Frewen, Tom Lee, Kieran O'Callaghan & score of the game by captain Jimmy Barry Murphy was a fitting finish to a hard working team performance. Final score was Ballylanders 0-17 Monaleen 0-12. Disappointment For Minors
Kilfinane was the venue for the 13 a side South Minor League Final on Sunday evening last where we were to play neighbours Galtee Gaels. With just eight minutes on the clock a point each form the O'Mahony brothers, Eamon & Eoin, had us two points to no score ahead. Gaels had the game level after 10 minutes & the teams were to swap scores with Ciaran Kelly finding the target with four points on the trot leaving Bally leading 0-6 to 0-4. On the stroke of half time the ball broke on the edge of the box where Ger Leahy was on hand to fire past the Gaels keeper to give us a commanding lead going into the break leading 1-6 to 0-4.
On the resumption of the second half Gaels were well on top & scored four unanswered points until two points from Dylan Noonan & Darren McCarthy studied the ship but Gaels were to hit a purple patch scoring eight points on the trot. A late Ciaran Kelly penalty proved to be no more than a consolation with Galtee Gaels wining on a score line of 0-16 to 2-9.
